KETTLES SAILING CLUB (KSC) WEEKEND SAILING SERIES 2010

Kettles hosted the 2009 MLA Laser District Championship with over 30 boats participating

The Kettles Sailing Club has rich history dating back to the early 1940s when the “gaff-rig” dinghy (double-handed) was the boat of choice for weekend sailing fun. The Albacore dinghy (double-handed) was the preferred boat during the 60s, 70s and 80s, and more recently the Laser (single-handed) sailboat has emerged as the most popular choice for sailing at the Kettles as well as neighboring Muskoka sailing clubs. The Kettles Sailing Club now boasts one of the largest Laser fleets in the Muskokas.

Over the years the Kettles Sailing Club has produced many top level sailors who got their start in the Kettles Junior Program, furthered their skill development in the Kettles Weekend Sailing Series, and went on to national and international success in a variety of sailboat classes. Currently, Kettles sailor Adam Nicholson, a recent National Sailing Team member is campaigning for the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Finn sailboat class.

While the success of top level sailors from the Kettles is inspiring, the Kettles Weekend Sailing Series is dedicated to fun, recreational level sailing, including post-race socials. All levels and ages are welcome and encouraged to participate in any type of sailboat. The Weekend Series features 1-3 short races, depending on the winds, on most Saturday afternoons in East Bay starting at 2pm (see schedule). A post race social follows at approximately 4:30pm. Sailors are welcome to opt in and out as they please and may dock and sail from the Church of the Kettles docks.

There are several KSC trophies awarded annually including: Early Bird; Fairhead; Jarrett; Most Improved; and SNAFU (Situation Normal All F-ed Up).

An exciting addition the to the Kettles sailing schedule for 2010 is our hosting of the Ontario Masters Laser Championship (age 35 and over) & MLA Laser District Championship (open to all ages) on the weekend of August 14 & 15. This will be one of the larger sailing events hosted by the Kettles Sailing Club in recent years with as many as 50 sailors expected to participate. All Kettles sailors, including Juniors are encouraged to participate in this fun weekend sailing event. We’re also looking for volunteers to help out for this event including cottagers who can billet out-of-town sailors. Please contact Steve Jarrett, steve@sbcmedia.com or Doug Clark, dougclark@live.ca if you can help out.
