History of Kettles
Senior Sailing Club
The Kettles Sailing Club started in the early 1950’s and included various type of sailboats such as the Ackroyd dingy and the Y Flyer. It was seldom to see more that 2 boats of the same class in any of the races in these early days. It wasn’t until the late 50’s when Doug Jarrett and Al Clark while in Port Carling on summer ran into Bill Goodram (who had just finished doing a study for the RCYC youth group as to was would be a good class of sailboats to use) The decision was the Albacore.
Doug Jarrett and Al Clark were impressed enough to suggest
a class
Kettles Sailing club continued to flourish into the sixties with the fleet growing to over 20 boats. As a result of that, clubs followed in South Muskoka, Bala, and Rosseau area of the Muskoka Lakes.
Senior Sailing continued strong well into the eighty's but eventually ended. As recently as 3 years ago, there has been a resurgence of interest by the "older" crowd to get out again and we have enjoyed up to 20 boats out at some of the races. This is great to see and we encourage and all sailors regardless of age, type of boat and skill.
Its a great way to spend a day on the water.........
See you at the Races.!
