Swimming

Swimming Registration Form 2005

The Kettles Swimming Program offers students and fun and exciting way to learn to swim.  We offer the Red Cross AquaQuest Program which consists of an exciting 12-level program for children aged three and up.  The 12 levels of AquaQuest ensure that swimmers progress gradually as their maturity, physical strength and abilities develop. Each level provides the student with swimming (strokes) improvement and water safety knowledge, for a well-rounded water experience.

The Royal Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross swimming levels are also available this year at Kettles.  These classes are one hour in length, Monday, Wednesday and Friday beginning at 3:00 p.m. and it is strongly recommended that students enrol for the full summer session.

  • The Lifesaving Society’s Bronze Medallion award teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education—judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness.
  • Rescuers learn tows and carries and defence and release methods in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a timed swim.
  • Bronze Cross is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities.
  • Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certification.

All swimming classes are offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m. for 30 - 60 minutes, depending on the Level.

Sailing

Junior Sailing Registration Form 2005

1) Beginner Sailing (ages 7 –11)

  • The Vanguard Pram is an excellent training boat and is highly recommended by the Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) and the Ontario Sailing Association (OSA) for 7 – 13 year olds. It is a very stable, flat-bottomed boat with one sail and holds 1 –2 young sailors.
  • The program will use our new Vanguard prams and Club 420’s and combines a fun on-water and on-land program in a safe, group oriented setting. Children will work toward the new CYA Pram certification or Learn to Sail – White Sail. Class size will be limited.
  • Beginner sailing classes will be run again this year on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00 to 11:30.  We recommend sailors enrol for a minimum 2-week period.
  • All students must have the equivalent of AquaQuest VI swimming level.

2) Regular Sailing (ages 10 and up)

  • Our regular sailing program is designed for all sailors aged 10-16 years old, and uses our fleets of Prams, 420’s, Laser II’s and Albacores. The program includes on-water sailing skills and on-land segments on skills such as knots and terminology.  Sailors  may work toward CYA White Sail and Bronze Sail Certification Levels. The program also introduces racing in a fun, team-oriented environment.
  • Classes will be run Monday, Wednesday & Friday mornings 9:00 to 12:00

3) Advanced Sailing (ages 13 and up)

  • This program is designed for enthusiastic sailors who wish to further develop their basic sailing skills and racing techniques.  It is offered to those registered in the Regular Sailing program who are 13 years and up. Sailors may work towards CYA Bronze Sail Level IV and V.
  • Classes will be run Tuesday and Thursday 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

** In all classes it is mandatory to wear life jackets.  Whistles attached to jackets are an added safety feature.
