Master's Sailing 2006
As we
enter our 5th summer of the Kettles Senior Sailing races, we continue to see
interest by sailors (experienced and new) to come out and race. We have
decided this year that instead of collecting separately for Senior Sailing
Annual Dues, that membership would be included for all members of the
Kettles Association. This provides access to all the other benefits of the
Kettles Membership (i.e. BBQ event, Auction, Regatta, etc). We also plan to
get new starting flags that will help with the starting of the race. With
the larger markers that we are now using (thanks to John Beare) we might
even be able to see the windward mark! We would like to encourage more
cottagers who are interested in sailing to come out to our races. If you
know someone who is new in the area, ask him or her to join us. Notably, we
have changed the race start times to 3:00 p.m.
as we hope the winds will be better at that time of day. For those of you
who have not yet hosted a post sailing race social “and would like
to”, please contact me.

SOME RACE RULES TO CONSIDER
-
360 RULE
a 360 (one tack and one jibe)
is required if you hit a mark
-
720 RULE
a 720 is required (two tacks
and two jibes) if you foul another boat.
Typical causes of fouls is the
obvious port-starboard infractions. The other main case is buoy room. A boat that has an inside overlap is entitled to buoy
room. This boat is between a buoy and another boat and with its bow
ahead of the stern of the other boat, when they are within two boat
lengths of the buoy
